Install

Release binaries for Linux x86_64 and arm64, verified with checksums and a GitHub provenance attestation.

Requirements

  • Linux x86_64 or arm64 with glibc 2.36 or newer (Debian 12, Ubuntu 24.04 or newer). Acropolis uses mount, PID and network namespaces and overlayfs, so it does not run on macOS or Windows; a Linux VM or a --privileged container works.
  • Root for full builds. acropolis plan runs without root.

From a release

Each release ships the binary, its checksums, and a provenance attestation signed by GitHub Actions. Replace v with the latest release:

v=v0.3.1 target=x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu   # or aarch64-unknown-linux-gnu
gh release download "$v" -R olimpiacloud/acropolis -p "acropolis-$v-$target.tar.gz" -p SHA256SUMS
sha256sum --ignore-missing -c SHA256SUMS
gh attestation verify "acropolis-$v-$target.tar.gz" -R olimpiacloud/acropolis
tar xzf "acropolis-$v-$target.tar.gz" && sudo install "acropolis-$v-$target/acropolis" /usr/local/bin/

Builder image

A Debian 12 image with native build tools (python3, make, g++, pkg-config, git) and prewarmed toolchains (Node LTS, Go, Bun, uv, Python) is published as ghcr.io/olimpiacloud/acropolis-builder:<version> for amd64 and arm64:

docker run --rm --privileged -v "$PWD:/app:ro" -v /tmp/out:/out \
  ghcr.io/olimpiacloud/acropolis-builder:<version> build /app --oci /out/image.tar --info /out/info.json

See Running in production for the privileges it needs.

From source

With a recent stable Rust (at least the rust-version in Cargo.toml) and a C compiler:

git clone https://github.com/olimpiacloud/acropolis
cd acropolis
cargo build --release --bin acropolis # target/release/acropolis
